At the Reynaers Aluminium site in Duffel, every square metre is put to meaningful use. For the site’s expansion, located in a densely populated residential area, a human- and environment-centred approach was chosen. Sustainability takes precedence, with compact construction and dual-purpose use of space as tangible results. For instance, the roof of one of the warehouses doubles as an employee parking lot – a smart and visually refined solution, made possible by Roval Aluminium’s wall cappings, which maximise spatial efficiency and visual comfort.

High upstands were chosen both to keep cars out of sight and to reduce noise pollution. These upstands help direct sound upwards. By finishing the upstands of the parking deck with aluminium wall cappings, a perfect transition is created between the building’s exterior and the roof’s inner wall, resulting in a sleek and aesthetic look.

“The upstands are first clad with concrete plywood, onto which we mount our unique clamping system,” explains Michel Pas of Roval Aluminium. “We use an expansion clamp with two rubber seals that allow water to run between them and drain onto the roof surface, making the system watertight. Since we use expansion clamps instead of overlapping joints, the final result is even more streamlined.”

The wall cappings are made from aluminium, a sustainable material that is 100% recyclable. “Thanks to special springs, the aluminium cappings are also removable and low-maintenance,” Michel adds. “Cleaning them once a year is sufficient.”
